Box Office Results

Weekend Studio Estimates (Oct. 31 – Nov. 2)

1.  High School Musical 3 – $15 million
2.  Zack and Miri Make a Porno – $10.7 million
3.  Saw V – $10.1 million
4.  Changeling – $9.4 million
5.  The Haunting of Molly Hartley – $6 million

Once again the tween idols take the weekend box office.  With a second weekend gross of $15 million, that’s all the dancing high schoolers needed to top the competition.  Kevin Smith’s raunchy comedy, Zack and Miri, was runner up with $10.7 million.  Halloween weekend proved people were out for a scare.  Saw V finished third in the box office with $10.1 million and The Haunting of Molly Hartley finished fifth with $6 million.  The most impressive film this weekend was Clint Eastwood’s Changeling, which opened in less than 2,000 theaters but still made $9.4 million, good enough for fourth.

This was a disappointing weekend for the box office.  Phil had high hopes but exaggerated his predictions.  Dan had the top two correct and was on the right track by predicting low grosses, but I was the only one to predict all of the Top 5 films, though out of order.

Check back Friday for our next week’s predictions.
