Box Office Predictions (Feb. 26-28)

Sorry for not posting the box office predictions and results from last weekend.  In a quick recap, Shutter Island opened up to $41.1 million and claimed the #1 spot over the weekend.

This weekend there are two new releases:  a buddy-cop film and a horror.

First, we have the action/comedy, Cop Out, starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan.  Directed by Kevin Smith, this R-rated flick has a lot of mainstream appeal to it and the studio is hoping to cash in.  The commercials sell the movie pretty well, but the reviews that are coming in have been mostly negative.  Let’s see if the public agrees with the critics or not.

A remake of George Romero’s horror classic from 1973 is the second of the two new releases, The Crazies.  This is another R-rated movie and the commercials have been pumping through your television for weeks.  The Crazies doesn’t star any huge movie stars, but that’s usually not a concern for horror movies.

Here are my predictions:

1.  Shutter Island – $23 million
2.  Cop Out – $22 million
3.  The Crazies – $16 million
4.  Avatar – $12 million
5.  Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief – $8 million

  1. Even though Cop Out is getting horrible reviews, I will probably still check it out this weekend. The only reason why is because I am a fan of Kevin Smith.
