All right, so Avatar was finally taken down last weekend. What does that mean for the three new releases during this Valentine’s Day weekend? Pretty much anything.
Copying the formula for last year’s Febuary 14th date-movie, He’s Just Not That Into You, comes Valentine’s Day starring a slew of actors you’ve heard of before: Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, Jamie Foxx, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Garner… just to name a few. There won’t be another movie to see instead of this one when it comes down to the dinner and a movie plan, so I expect a very good result for Valentine’s Day.
Remaking the classic horror tale is Wolfman starring Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, and Hugo Weaving. Despite negative reviews, audiences love themselves a good monster-horror film. The R-rating might hurt this film a bit, but there is certainly a good audience for Wolfman.
Finally, there is Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, the latest PG-rated, fantasy adventure based off of a book. This certainly won’t be the next Harry Potter or Twilight, but I expect a decent outing for this kid-friendly film.
Here are my predictions:
1. Valentine’s Day – $30 million
2. Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief – $24 million
3. Dear John – $20 million
4. Wolfman – $16 million
5. Avatar – $15 million
