And the reign of Avatar continues. For the sixth straight weekend, Avatar takes the box office crown. Taking in $36 million this past weekend, it is closing in fast on the all-time highest grossing film, Titanic. With about $553 million domestic and $1.83 billion worldwide, there’s no question whether or not Avatar will become the largest grossing movie ever anymore.
Legion ($18.2 million) was able to beat out all of the new releases of the weekend to snag the runner-up spot. The Book of Eli took the third spot with $17 million. Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson’s kid-comedy film The Tooth Fairy ($14.5 million) was fourth and The Lovely Bones ($8.8 million) landed the fifth spot.
Check back on Friday for new predictions when two new releases hit the theaters: Edge of Darkness and the romantic-comedy When in Rome.
