Studio Estimates for Feb. 27 – March 1:
1. Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail – $16.5 million
2. Jonas Brothers: 3D Concert Experience – $12.7 million
3. Slumdog Millionaire – $12.2 million
4. Taken – $10 million
5. He’s Just Not That Into You – $5.9 million
If you told me that the Jonas Brothers would gross less than $13 million this weekend, I would’ve laughed directly in your face. Where were all the 12-year-old girls this weekend? Too busy doing what? This really has me up in a blaze of confusion and is why the box office is so unpredictable.
It’s hard to say who had the best predictions… I guess it’s safe to declare we all had equally bad predictions. Jonas Brothers flopped, Madea Goes to Jail had a semi-decent second weekend, Street Fighter barely made the Top 10 (#8; $4.65 million), and He’s Just Not That Into You showed staying power none of us guessed.
We’ll try to do better next weekend when the highly anticipated adaptation of Alan Moore’s acclaimed graphic novel, Watchmen, gets a super wide release.
