‘Twilight’ mob in San Francisco

November 12, 2008

Not buying into the ‘Twilight’ craze yet?  Rob Pattinson, playing Edward in the movie, was forced to cancel a signing at a Hot Topic in San Francisco on Monday when a mob broke out because of poor preparation by the organizers.  The staff only expected around 500 people to attend the event, but a crowd of about 3,000, most of whom lined up at the doors waiting for the mall to open the night before, turned into a riot.

Come on now!  You have to give Twilight some credit, right?  The star of the entire franchise is appearing in a small San Francisco Hot Topic, and they only thought 500 people would show up?  This is Twilight people!  Even though Rob Pattinson was a no-name before, he is a bonafide STAR now, even though the movie hasn’t even been released yet.  It’s just a shame all those fans had to be turned down because of horrible organization.

Boyle to make ‘28 Months Later’?

November 12, 2008

The MTV Movies Blog hints that Danny Boyle, who directed the incredible ‘28 Days Later’ might be considering to jump back on the franchise for the third installment… though he claims it won’t be called, ‘28 Months Later.’  Oh, and he also requests people stop saying they’re zombies in his film.  “They’re infected.  They’re not zombies,” he’s quoted.

Well fair enough Mr. Boyle.  After you enjoy your success with indie-hit Slumdog Millionaire with possible Oscar nominations, please go back onto the franchise and restore the griddiness that the sequel 28 Weeks Later lacked.  You don’t have to call it 28 Months Later, though I don’t know why you wouldn’t.  Just finish off the franchise with a bang!  Global pandemic style!

‘Monopoly’ Movie

November 12, 2008

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the classic boardgame ‘Monopoly’ will be adapted into a movie.  But that’s not all.  Pamela Pettler (Corpse Bride) is set to write the screenplay and guess who’s going to direct it… (drum roll)… Ridley Scott!  Huh?  What?  The guy who did Gladiator and American Gangster?  Yeah I know, I’m dumbfounded by the choice as well… and the fact that they’re going to make a movie from a real estate board game of luck (though Ouija Board and Battleship are also in development).  Hey, if it’s anything like ‘Clue’ then I’m totally on board!

CMA Awards Tonight!

November 12, 2008

Tonight is the 42nd Annual CMA Awards, one of country’s most prestigious awards ceremony full of live performances and awards to Country music’s best.  Hosted by the really good-looking duo of Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, tonight’s ceremony should be a lot fun.

Kenny Chesney leads all artists with seven nominations, including Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year.  George Strait and Sugarland receive five nominations each while Alan Jackson and Brad Paisley score four nominations each.

What to look for:

  • A live performance from The Eagles.
  • Carrie Underwood shining beneath the lights and cameras whether she’s singing or hosting… she’s a fantastic and lively personality and will do a great job.
  • Brad Paisley and Keith Urban performing together (hopefully playing “Start a Band”)
  • Whether Kenny Chesney can keep his strangle hold on the Entertainer of the Year award.

Okay, as the Orlando Sentinel pointed out, the CMA Awards aren’t really that exciting in the awards area of the show.  Chesney won Entertainer of the Year three times in the past four years.  The Rascal Flatts won the Top Vocal Group award five years in a row.  Brooks & Dunn won Best Vocal Duo 14 times since 1992, though last year’s winner Sugarland should repeat this year.  Yes, the awards are quite predictable, but that’s not the reason to tune into the CMA Awards.  You should tune in for the live performances from Country’s best.  Almost every top Country artist will be in attendance and most likely performing.  It’s a highly entertaining concert with awards presentations in-between.

But if I had to predict some winners, I would choose:

  • Kenny Chesney for Entertainer of the Year
  • Kenny Chesney for Album of the Year (Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates)
  • Carrie Underwood for Female Vocalist of the Year (please don’t let it be Taylor Swift)
  • Sugarland’s “Stay” for Song of the Year
  • Brad Paisley for Male Vocalist of the Year

Alright… now all I have to do is grab my cowboy hat and enjoy the show tonight, which is at 8 p.m. on ABC.  Check out the website here:  CMAawards.com
