The Gurus of Gold has posted their initial predictions for the Oscars at Movie City News. From the charts, that include the heavyweights of Oscar analysts, it’s obvious that it is way too early to really declare a frontrunner. But leading the way so far is Ron Howard’s Frost/Nixon, followed closely behind by Milk, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Slumdog Millionaire, and Revolutionary Road. Those who are saying, “What about The Dark Knight?” no need to panic. From the charts, The Dark Knight just missed the cut and ranks tied for 6th with The Soloist.
The Actor that has made the biggest splash thus far is Mickey Rourke, whose performance in Aronofsky’s The Wrestler is being highly praised. Following him are Sean Penn, Frank Langella, Robert Downey Jr, and Clint Eastwood. These acting veterans are just showing how high the expectations are for them to prove their rank among the best.
The Actress who finds herself at the top of the charts is the one and only Meryl Streep for her gritty role in Doubt. Behind her are Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Angelina Jolie. All of thest preliminary Top 5’s have been nominated for an Oscar except for Anne Hathaway. But her performance in Rachel Getting Married is being highly talked about. She can very well find herself competing for the statue come February, but winning it will probably be an upset.
For the Supporting categories, the late Heath Ledger leads the pack of the actors while Penelope Cruz leads the actresses. These predictions might be a result of the summer releases of both The Dark Knight and Vicky Christina Barcelona, so don’t be surprised of these frontrunners get bumped on the next update.
