Here’s a few new releases you can find in stores today.
Movies:
- Sex and the City – The Movie
This successful TV-series made into a movie did quite well in the box office along with mild acclaim.
In Genevieve Koski’s review, she says, “The movie balances sentimentality with good-natured humor, has almost unbearably snappy dialogue, and is just plain fun to look at.”
As for me, I’ve never watched an episode of this show and I don’t plan on ever watching this film. I’m not bashing it or anything… I just don’t have the slightest interest in these characters, the series, or the movie.
- Leatherheads
It’s the George Clooney show! He directed and starred in this screwball comedy set in the 1920s about how pro football finally gained some respect.
Peter Travers of the Rolling Stone gave the film three stars (***/****) and said in his review, “Leatherheads is most on its game when it’s in the game, and in the zone of Clooney’s no-bull affection for the faces of his actors.”
- Deception
I remember seeing the commercials for this film starring Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor, and Michelle Williams. It looked like it could be interesting, but nothing really jumped out that it could be a real hit.
There weren’t too many positive reviews for this film, and Mark Olsen of the Los Anegles Times followed the trend by saying in his review, “No small factor of what makes the film such a disappointment is the extremely talented and likable cast, all of whom deserve better roles than this.”
Music:
- The Pussycat Dolls – Doll Domination
Glenn Gamboa of Newsday wasn’t impressed by The Pussycat Dolls’ latest release by rating it with a C- and saying, “as far as music is concerned, they [The Pussycat Dolls] are not hte dominators, they are the dominated.”
- TV On The Radio – Dear Science
Zeth Lundy of PopMatters reviews this new album saying, “TV on the Radio’s music is a new kind of rock ‘n’ roll, one that collects all of this itinerant noise and recycles it, spits it back out as a pulsing, sandblasted reckoning.”
Television:
- Two and a Half Men – Season Four
The whole of Charlie and Alan continue their hilarious ways along with the half of Jake for this successful, CBS sitcom. Since I started watching this show late, I’m not caught up with the current season so I resort to the DVD releases. Nonetheless, I love this show.
- Samantha Who? – Season One
Say who. Say what. Sorry. This hit show from ABC has quite the premise. A woman suffers from amnesia and is forced to find out who she really is (imdb). Add lots of humor from the always wonderful Christina Applegate, and the recent Emmy-winning supporting actress Jean Smart, and you get a winning formula. Give this show a chance and you might love it.
