The Blur

It’s been a long while…

Movies:

 - Iron Man rocketted its way to the top of the box office records, debuting at about $100 million, the 2nd highest total ever for any non-sequel film (only behind Spider-Man).  This film has everything I wanted in a summer blockbuster… see it now.
 - Forgetting Sarah Marshall has the “Apatown” back to form with their raunchiest production to date.  This film is up to par with last year’s successes Knocked Up and Superbad.

Television:

 - I just finished watching the first season of Friday Night Lights as was blown away by its extremely believable and dramatic portrayal of the small Texan town whose lives surround around football.  There are enough twists and cliff-hangers to make Lost jealous.  And maybe contrary to what you’ve heard, it’s a whole lot more than just a football show.
 - American Idol is wrapping up… though I have yet to watch a single episode this season, it’s impossible to hide from all the updates and eliminations.  So the final three are Syesha and the two Davids… and we all know it’s gonna be a David vs. David finals.  Prediction:  Archuleta wins Idol and Cook has the more successful post-Idol stint.

Music:

 - Dillinger Escape Plan’s album “Ire Works” is totally awesome.
 - Thrice’s double EP “The Alchemy Index Vol III & IV: Air & Eartch” is stronger than their last release “Fire & Water.”  My favorite is “Air,” which boasts stellar tracks like “Broken Lungs,” “Daedalus,” and “Silver Wings.”
 - The sophomore slump seem to have affected Panic at the Disco with their release of “Pretty. Odd”  With few catchy melodies and hooks, they abandoned their pop/punk/dance sound for a bland, post-pop/punk sound that never really takes off.
